WordPress daily prompt: Buyers, Beware?

The year is 2214, and your computer’s dusty hard drive has just resurfaced at an antique store. Write a note to the curious buyer explaining what he or she will find there. (Thank you for suggesting a similar prompt, Auntysocial!)

She stepped into the bustling alley and jostled her way right through the heart of the buzz. Slowly making her way through the turbulent river of a crowd she managed to reach right at the very end of the narrow yet brimming alley. Cautiously, yet persistent, through the slurry of people she edged towards the wall and slipped into a barely visible door.

A small chime of a bell announced her arrival as she stepped into the dark dingy antique shop which reeked  with the smell of the ancients. She walked up briskly to the dimly lit counter and pressed the bell impatiently. A wrinkled old man with bottle bottom glasses gradually shuffled from the darkness into view carrying a parcel wrapped in brown paper. As he adjusted the heavy frames and squinted to see the visitor better, his face crumpled even more with his toothless smile. “I’ve been waiting for you!” He exclaimed with sudden childish excitement unusual for his age. She smiled and held out her hand eagerly, “I’ve been waiting for this too!!” her voice betraying her emotional turmoil beneath the calm. With trembling hands overwhelmed with emotion he gently placed the parcel in her hands.

Animatedly she tore away the wrappings and the brown paper fell apart to reveal a dusty old hard drive. A little note fell out and rolled off her shoe. In a swooping motion she picked up the note and open the note. Tears streamed down her smiling face as she read those five words:

It worked, we did it !!”

Clumsily re-wrapping the hard-drive and clutching it to her chest, she made her way out of the shop. I stepped out of the antique shop, looked up and smiled for the sunlight of  2214 welcomed me with its warmth.
